Last week we were invited to a mid-week outdoor Movie Night starring Disney Junior's newest friend Vampirina. Thank you to LA Mamacitas for having us over for such a fun night, we had such a fun night. Not only were my girls so excited to finallywatch Vampirina, but I was excited to hang out with some fellow LA Mamacitas for a couple hours too. The LA Mamacitas put together such a cute spread for an outdoor movie night starring Vampirina. #LAMamacitas #Vampirina #DisneyJuniorRead More
One of the best parts about my girls growing up is sharing with them things from my childhood. I love to tell them about the games I used to play, sing along to old songs and quote lines from my favorite movies. I feel like I've been waiting for them to be old enough to really appreciate the movies that I loved so much. So, this Halloween season I've been bringing out some of my favorites. The time has finally come for them to be introduced to some of the classics and of course, the only way they can be properly introduced is with a movie night. #FrightAndDelight #CollectiveBiasRead More
Chuck E. Cheese is one of those establishments that feels like it’s just always been there, it's always been around. You knew you could always rely on Chuck E. Cheese being there for the birthday that gets rained out or a birthday on one of those scorching hot Summer days. I think everyone I know has had at least one birthday party there or has at least gone to one birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese. You can always count on Chuck E. for some pizza, cake and games.Read More

It's Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15) and you know what that means right? It's time to celebrate family and traditions with good food. One of the most important things I learned from my grandmas is that the best memories are made when family comes together. Over the years, I've also learned that family will always come together, especially when there is good food. Today I'm sharing 4 recipe ideas that are sure to bring family together.
Stouffer's Chicken Alfredo with Chorizo
As much as like to bake and spend time in the kitchen, I also like to find shortcuts and ways to save time. Stouffer's always comes in handy with saving time. I bought STOUFFER'S® Family Size Chicken Alfredo and decided to add a twist. This time I added Chorizo!
What I like most about Stouffer's is that it's as easy as throwing in the oven and letting it cook on it's own. This time, I cooked a small amount of Chorizo on the side, let it drain and added it to the Alfredo for the last 15 minutes of baking.
The flavors worked so well together. The creamy Alfredo balanced the spice of the Chorizo and the pasta and chicken added a nice bite. This is perfect for a party. Make a few family size trays and sprinkle some chorizo last minute, that's it.
Bread Pudding with Platanos Maduros
I have learned several variations of bread pudding from my grandma and my husbands grandma. But this one, is mine. This is my variation and if your abuelas are anything like mine, then you know they would definitely not approve of the changes I've made.
Here is what you'll need:
- NESTLÉ® LA LECHERA® Sweetened Condensed Milk
- French Bread (or any bread of choice) Cubed
- 3 cups of cold milk
- 2 eggs
- Platanos Maduros (I used the frozen kind and just followed the package instructions)
- 1 cup of butter- melted
- 2 tbsp Vanilla
For the Icing:
- 1 cup of powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
- Chop the bread to 1 - 1 1/2 inch cubes place on a baking sheet and sprinkle with cinnamon. Place in the oven for about 2-3 minutes. Just until the bread becomes slightly toasted.
- Fry the platanos maduros, per the package instructions. Set aside to drain the oil and chop into quarters.
- Add quartered platanos and cubed bread to a 9 x 11 baking dish. Make sure platanos are evenly distributed throughout.
- Next mix the wet ingredients. Whisk together melted butter, Sweetened Condensed Milk, cold milk, eggs and vanilla. Pour the mixture over the bread and platanos. Cover with foill.
- Bake for 40 minutes. Remove the foil and bake another 10 minutes or until you see the top start to brown. The top will be toasted, the bottom will be moist.
- While the bread pudding bakes, you can mix the icing. Whisk the powdered sugar, milk and vanilla together until you get the consistency you like for icing. If you like yours thicker, add more sugar, or thinner add more milk a splash at a time.
- Serve warm with icing drizzled over the top.
Cream Cheese and Chocolate Empanadas
Empanadas are some of my favorite party foods. First of all, I love that you can make them sweet or savory just depending on what you fill them with. But whenever I make them sweet, I usually have the kids in mind. They just fit so perfectly in their little hands, but of course adults will love them too.
Here is what you'll need:
- NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi Sweet Morsels
- Refrigerated Pie crust
- 8 oz. Cream Cheese
- 1 cup Powdered Suga
- Egg yolk
- 2 tbsp of Butter
- 1 tbsp Vanilla
- Preheat the oven to 375 (or whatever your refrigerated pie crust packaging says)
- Cut circles with a 4 inch diameter, I used a small bowl for my circles.
- Mix cream cheese and powdered sugar until you get a frosting like consistency. *Try not to lick the spoon.
- Place a dollop of filling, about a tablespoon, on to half of the dough.
- I sprinkled morsels on top of the mixture as a layer, instead of mixing it in.
- Next fold the circle in half and close with a fork.
- Last brush egg yolk over the closed empanada and sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake for 7-9 minutes or until nice and golden.
- While the empanadas are baking, you can make the chocolate drizzle by melting the butter and vanilla in the microwave and mixing in a 1/4 cup of Semi Sweet Morsels.
- When the empanadas are nice and warm, drizzle some chocolate or even dip the empanadas if you like.
Iced Café de Olla
I remember the first time I had cafecito. I was eleven years old and I was visiting family in Guanajuato. The family that was hosting us served me a nice warm class of instant coffee. I would like to say I've been hooked ever since, but that's probably not exactly true. Most of the time when people start making coffee at a party, it means the party is coming to an end. But that's not the case with this Iced Café de Olla. This drink can definitely be a main beverage served at a party.
Here's what you'll need:
- 1/4 cup NESTLÉ® COFFEE-MATE® Liquid Coffee Creamer - French Vanilla flavor
- 1 tbsp Nescafe Café de Olla Instant Coffee
- 1 cup of Milk
- Cinnamon and Sugar
- Pour milk into a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Mix in the Nescafe Café de Olla Instant Coffee and stir until dissolved and completely heated through.
- Mix cinnamon and sugar on a plate.
- Wet the rim of the glass and turn upside down onto the cinnamon/sugar mixture, until the rim is coated.
- Fill the cup with ice.
- Pour the hot coffee over the cup of ice.
- Add the French Vanilla Coffee Creamer and mix.
- Sprinkle a little extra cinnamon and sugar on top.
Hispanic Heritage Celebration Decoration Ideas
To be honest, all of the food will speak for itself. When you are ready to decorate your table, pull out your sarape (Mexican blanket) or any culturally relevant fabrics that you may have on hand and lay it out. They are usually very bright and add so much color and texture as well.
If I were to pick a favorite movie of the year so far, it would most definitely be Disney's The Jungle Book. It is an incredible re-imagining of a classic family favorite. The characters, the graphics, the story, the voices, the scenery... everything is just incredible. So, I loved watching it in 3D at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, but I knew that this would be a definite movie I'd need to add to our movie library. On August 23rd, you can get Disney's The Jungle Book on Digital Download and on August 30th, the Bluray/DVD becomes available.
With all the excitement for the Digital Download and upcoming DVD release I thought I'd share a few viewing party ideas for the upcoming DIsney's The Jungle Book movie nights.
First of all, invite your friends. Friends of all kinds are welcome, man-cubs and animals alike. I asked my girls, "Do you have any Jungle friends?" A few minutes later, our guests arrived. Also, the perfect backdrop for a Jungle Book party, is right outside your door. Just look outside and I bet you'll find a jungle of your own.
First of all, kids aren't all that picky when it comes to party food. I had some Twizzlers on hand, and cups filled with both regular and cinnamon-caramel popcorn. I also made some Honey Comb marshmallow treats drizzled with honey.
Face painting! Have the kids pick their favorite animal and have some fun. I searched pinterest a bit before finding some ideas I liked, but it was pretty quick and painless.
There you go. The Jungle Book viewing party in as easy as 1-2-3. But, don't forget the movie! You can either buy the DVD when it comes out on August 30th or get the Digital Download now available. Or...
How would you like to win a Digital Code card for Disney's The Jungle Book? You know, for your own viewing party. You can use the code to watch The Jungle Book on your TV, tablets or phone- even on the go.

Have you heard the excellent news? There's a new princess in town, last week we officially met Disney's first Latina princess, Elena of Avalor. As a mother to two little Latina princesses of my own, this was kind of a big deal. Not only is it fun for them to be able to look up to someone who resembles you, but it's important to be able to share parts of your culture with others.
So, not only were we super excited for the premier of Disney's Elena of Avalor, we had ourselves a viewing party!
In the package that Disney sent us, there was a party board with ideas that would be fun for an Elena of Avalor party. All of the crafts and decorations were super cute, but one thing popped out at me; Bunuelos. This recipe and the irons that I used to make them were handed down to me by my Grandma Aurora before she passed away. It is a very special tradition to us and our family and I thought it was very fitting that we have them to celebrate the first Latina Princess.
My Grandma Aurora was a beautiful and proud Latina woman. She was a definite embodiment of what a Latina princess should be; Ready to rule with grace and compassion and a strong sense of familia. I learned so much from her and every single time that I am crafting, working on a DIY project or decorating for a party, I think of her. She had an amazing eye for decoration and I just wish she was still around to give me tips or lend a hand. I just know she would have LOVED Pinterest, she definitely would have created an Elena of Avalor Pinterest Board right away.
To make the Bunuelos here is what you'll need: (this recipe yields about 2 dozen rosettes.)
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp vanilla
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup flour
- ½ tsp salt
- oil for frying
- Rosette Irons (You can find them online)
- cinnamon sugar mixture
- Place Flour, Sugar and Salt in a large bowl. Form a well
- Whisk egg, vanilla, and milk until mixed together.
- Pour wet ingredients into the well of flour and whisk together until a batter forms. There shouldn't be lumps and the batter should have a consistency similar to pancake batter.
- Heat Oil in a pan to 165 degrees. The oil should be able to cover the rosette iron, so at least 2-3 inches deep.
- Keep the iron in the oil so it heats up as well.
- Once your batter is ready. Take the iron out of the oil, dripping the remaining oil off. The iron should be hot when dipping into the batter.
- IMPORTANT: Do not cover the iron in batter. The batter should only go as far as the walls of the rosette.
- Dip a few times and transfer to the oil. The batter should fry and release itself from the iron. If it doesn't, sometimes you might have to use a fork to help it release.
- Flip so both sides are golden and remove from oil. Set aside on paper towels.
- Last, sprinkle the rosette with the cinnamon/sugar mix.
This little lady was so excited for the premier of Elena of Avalor. And not just for the bunuelos. I love hearing all the excitement in her voice as she says, "She's a Latina. Like me."
Our viewing party had to include some arts and craft projects. A viewing party would not be complete if we were not creating something beautiful. My daughter had so much fun creating these tissue paper flower headbands. When there is a craft or DIY project that the kids can do themselves, you can see the proud look of accomplishment on their faces. Which is kinda what a Mom lives for.
Fruit and popcorn are two must haves at any party. I know for us, growing up, Summer and fruit went hand in hand. We always had chopped up fruit in the fridge and for this party, I thought canteloupe and strawberries would be perfect to go with Elena of Avalor's color scheme.
Of course, popcorn is always a crowd pleaser with the kids. Especially when they get their very own Elena of Avalor cup of popcorn.
I am so madly in love with this beautiful Elena of Avalor watercolor/typography print. I will definitely need to make a space for this in my daughters room. The print artfully presents all of the qualities that make up a Latina princess: Fearless Heroine Ready to Rule with grace and compassion. Brave protector embarking on Magical adventure with familia, friends and Royal sceptor- Crown Princess of Avalor.
The other main attraction at our viewing party was this beautiful table runner. The girls could not wait to get their hands on the fabric markers and get to work. You can do something like this too at your Elena of Avalor party. Just print up coloring sheets and line them up on a table with colorful markers or colored pencils. I love to see the kids let out their creativity.
If your missed the premier of Elena of Avalor, don't worry. You can tune into the Disney Channel each week to follow Elena of Avalor’s latest royal adventures! Elena of Avalor airs on the Disney Channel on Fridays at 7:30pm ET/6:30 pm CT and 7:30 pm PT.
I received free products in order to host the National Mom's Nite Out party. The opinions expressed here are my own.
Confession: I have never had a Mom's Night Out. Ever. My best friend is not a mom and I must admit, I like going out with her because, I can talk about my kids as much as I want, and I don't have to hear about hers. Is that bad? Anyway, I don't have many Mom friends in real life, but when I was selected to host a National Mom's Nite Out I was really excited. And to my surprise, when I texted a few of my Mom friends, they were excited too!
All the goodies you see above were sent in this big box of fun for everything you need for a fun Mom's Nite Out, including:
- MyPrintly Wine Glass painting craft pack (12 wine glasses and Tulip paints)
- Mom's Night Out DVD
- Mom's Nite Out cocktail shaker and drink mix
- Goody Bags stuffed with HP Photo Card Packs, MyPrintly candy favors, Bicycle® Cocktail Party playing cards
- Popcorn, Cheez-Its, Chex Mix, and Pepperidge Farm Cookies
Check out the trailer to Mom's Night Out
, it's hilarious! I love Sarah Drew from Grey's Anatomy and I loved her in this movie. It's just a good time. Trust me, find it and watch it.
So, thanks to MyPrintly I was able to print these cute photo booth props to have fun with. I didn't want to cut the centers out of those glasses, which made for a hilariously difficult blind selfie session... with my Mom.
I loved the popcorn boxes that I found on MyPrintly and immediately "Popcorn Bar" came to mind. So I popped a big bowl full of popcorn and brought in some extra goodies to add in. I mean M&M's, pretzels and Boston Baked Beans can't hurt right?
Our big party box was pretty heavy with these 12 wine glasses inside and once I found the tulip paint I knew it was going to be a fun activity. We were all able to chit chat about life while sipping on some wine and let some of our creativity flow.
I thought it was fun to see what everyone came up with and after a few minutes of over-thinking, we all just went for it. Our very own personalized wine glass along with a goody bag was such a cool treat for everyone to take home.
I love this little group of Mom's right here. It's hard to pull ourselves out of our everyday routine and take time for ourselves, but I really hope I can do this more often. Honestly, it's just good for our mental status, because I know all of these Mom's can go a little crazy sometimes. I am a mom to two girls only 18 months apart, my sister-in-law has a 5 year old son and a 2 year old daughter, my friend Roxanne has 3 year old TWINS (check out her blog
) and my oldest friend Afra has a 13 year old son, 5 year old daughter and 1 year old baby boy. So, yeah our hands are pretty full.
Thank you so much to all of you who came to my #NMNO15 party and thank you
for all of the fun goodies.

It doesn't happen often that my girls have been this excited about a new movie coming out on DVD. A few times a year they obsess over a new movie, although I feel like that may change as they are now growing into their very opinionated little selves.
is their current favorite movie, and since it's release earlier this week it has been on non-stop replay. The only thing I imagine they are trying to achieve by watching it so many times is to memorize all of the dialogue.
On Tuesday, after the littlest one got out of preschool we headed straight to
to pick up our very own copy of Big Hero 6. While we were there we picked up some finger foods from the frozen section so the girls can have some fun food to go along with their movie night. I tried to find something fun to eat that also goes along with the characters from the movie.
So of course, we had to have
Honey Lemon chicken wings
to represent Honey Lemon. She is probably my favorite character from the movie, she is smart and tough and stylish and my girls love her and her purse filled with fun balls.
Fredzilla may be the funniest characters from the movie, so I decided
Fredzilla fried cheese sticks
would be fun! I used frozen mozzarella sticks for our movie night, but of course you could always make your own favorite version of these for a party.
Gogo Tomago mini pizza bites
were probably my girls favorite foods from our movie night. Of course, all kiddos love mini pizzas.
To keep it real, my girls would not go near real Wasabi, so I had to go with something I knew they loved.
Wasabi Green Spinach dip
I have to admit my girls were a little hesitant about
Hiro Green Brain Juice
, I mean I know some kids are accustomed to drinking those green health shakes, but mine are not. This one I picked up from the refrigerated section at
, and it is all fruits and it tasted delicious. Hiro is a literal kid genius, so I thought, I'd give my girls some brain juice.
Check out our popcorn bowls! I picked these up from the dollar section at
, two bowls for $1 and then I just put my permanent marker to work to create Baymax's signature face. My girls loved loved loved their bowls! My littlest one even talked to her bowl as Baymax during the movie.
Okay, so you know I always have parties on the mind and I started to think about all of the Big Hero 6 parties coming up in this year. I have the best idea for a party favor for a Big Hero 6 Movie Night viewing party or birthday party.
Baymax: Your personal healthcare companion.
I bought these first aid kits from the dollar section at
and decorated them with a printable you can find
and then I opened them up and added the signature Baymax face to the inside cover.
So tell me, are you having a Big Hero 6 viewing party or birthday soon?
