I am guilty, I must admit that I use my phone for everything. It is just the generation we are in. Our phones are practically glued to our hands. As a blogger, my phone is one of my biggest tools for work. All photos that you see on my blog are from my phone. I recently purchased the Samsung Galaxy Avant from Walmart for the amazing price of $100 and we are getting so much use out of it, this may be one of our best family purchases so far.
You know when the kids are "bored" and asking for something new to do. Well, this is when we use the phone to search Pinterest for new fun stuff to do. I knew just what the girls wanted and searched for a homemade play dough recipe. There are a lot of recipes out there, but they are all pretty much the same with a tweak here and there. You can follow my version below.
3/4 cup of water
1 cup of flour
1/4 cup of salt
1 package of KoolAid
1 tsp of vegetable oil
1 tsp of cream of tartar
Here you can see my helper telling me what the recipe says. I cut it in half so I didn't make enough play dough for an army, because to keep it real, so much of it ends up on the floor. I love that she can read now, it's so nice to have a helper.
1. Heat the water to boil and then turn off the heat.
2. Add the oil, cream of tartar, KoolAid, and salt to the hot water, mixing well after each addition.
3. Add the flour and mix. The mixture will be lumpy and crumbly.
4. Add flour to the surface and dump the contents of the pan on the flour.
5. Lastly, kneed away! The dough will be hot at first, but the more you knead, the cooler it gets.
I ran out of food dye, so I used some random packages of KoolAid that I had on hand. I like using KoolAid, most colors end up pretty vibrant and they smell so much better this way. I think the little kid inside of me really enjoys making play dough. I find myself playing it for longer than is required.
Now let me tell you how we settled on making home made play dough. My girls have been watching YouTube lately and stumbled upon a channel where they create dresses for their princesses out of play dough and have been dying to do this for weeks now. Our new family phone, the Samsung Galaxy Avant comes in really handy for us. My girls were able to watch the YouTube video while playing with their play dough to get tips on how to make their dresses for their princesses.
I was so happy (and so was my daughter) to find this phone at Walmart for such a great deal. I was able to purchase the Samsung Galaxy Avant and Starter Kit for under $130! The Walmart Family Mobile service is $29.88/month(for the first line) Unlimited Talk, Text & Data service plan which includes up to 500MB of 4G LTE data. I am a Samsung fan all the way, I love their phones and the Avant has such great features for a $100 phone. We are able to use it to search Pinterest, watch videos on YouTube, take photos of our activities and of course call their Daddy while he's at work.
