Growing up I wasn't the kid that played outside much. In fact, my sister was the athletic one in the family and I really had no desire to even attempt to play sports. I was more of a head in the books kinda kid. That changed quite a bit once I became a mom because now I find outdoor play and physical activity really important. Today I'm teaming up with the California Milk Advisory Board, with this sponsored post to share some information about Fuel Up to Play 60.
is an amazing initiative created in partnership by the NFL and the National Dairy Council, with a focus on getting kids to eat healthier and be more active. The initiative is the nation's largest in-school program that encourages children to make healthier choices when it comes to the foods they eat while at the same time achieving at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
Our home school is located within a low-income area of Los Angeles and as a parent volunteer I find it necessary to seek programs that are willing to offer assistance where it is needed. Through the
initiative, qualifying California schools that participate and implement programs are eligible for up to $4,000. Some of the plays that Fuel Up to Play 60 suggest include having healthy breakfast and snack items available at your school, learning to bring farming to your school and even setting up a dance club for everyone to enjoy after school.
When I first heard about Fuel Up to Play 60, I thought it was such a great idea. With this generation being so sucked into technology, they definitely need a push to get out and play. I feel really fortunate that my girls are growing up in a house with a big back yard to run around in and that they love to play outside. Whether they are seeing who can go highest on the swings, riding bikes, digging in the dirt or getting their Papa to play baseball with them, they are outside quite a bit. I'm also glad to learn that
encourages healthier eating by teaching children how to make the healthy choice.
