Knott's #MerryFarm is Bringing the Holiday Cheer!

The holiday spirit is alive and in full swing at Knott's Berry Farm, in fact Knott's has completely transformed into the merriest place around- Knott's Merry Farm! My family and I were lucky enough to attend for the 3rd year and this time with a little bit of surprise SoCal rain. Knott's Merry Farm is open now through January 8, 2017.  Keep reading to  hear about some of the fun stuff you can expect.

Same Delicious Food Brand New Look! Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant- Now Open!

For more than 75 years families in Southern California have been lucky enough to enjoy Mrs. Knott's Famous Chicken Dinner Restaurant. What many people don't realize is that Mrs. Knott's restaurant actually opened before Knott's Berry Farm, the amusement park. Walter Knott started building old western themed houses as a way to entertain the very long line of guests waiting to eat Cordelia Knott's famous fried chicken. And just like that, Knott's Berry Farm Ghost Town was born.

I first visited Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant 2 years ago, after spending the day at Knott's Merry Farm. It was the perfect way to end the day. The food was DELICIOUS! It definitely lived up to the hype, it was everything that everyone said it was but In my opinion the restaurant itself was a bit outdated. So when I heard that Mrs. Knott's was going to be re-modeled, I could not wait to see the changes. And now, you can too!

Don't worry the food has remained the same. The fried chicken is still perfectly crispy and juicy and the biscuits, mashed potatoes and gravy are all still their classic delicious. Oh and that Chicken slider right there, was so good. I could fill up a plate just with those sliders and I would be happy. Well, with a side of Berry Punch of course.

So as far as the remodel goes, get ready to be blown away! I was. I walked through the entire restaurant and could not believe that this was the same restaurant from just 1 year ago. If I had to put a label on the style of the decor, I would say, Modern Country. Above, you can see my favorite new part of Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant. The new outdoor patio! Oh it's beautiful! Fresh air, delicious food and an amazing atmosphere.

As for the inside, the four dining rooms have all been redesigned but still hold true to the classic themes of the restaurant. This sign, along with huge beautiful sliding barn doors welcome you into the barn dining room, inspired by western farmhouse.

The light in this room is just gorgeous and also features a full service bar. A bar that serves signature boysenberry cocktails including boysenberry margaritas and beer. The décor in this room pays homage to the Garden Dining Room from before the renovations and it's a perfect blend of green and browns. With succulents lining the room and ladders with mason jars for lighting, it's a perfect room to enjoy your dinner.

This is what you can expect upon entering, along with a new waiting area, you can glance at walls lined with history. The Tea Room is filled with booths that overlook the Knott's Marketplace and the large dining room, inspired by Mrs. Knott's kitchen pantry is ready to welcome families and large parties.

I know, I should have shared a photo of the classic Mrs. Knott's Boysenberry pie. But, this slice of carrot cake was heavenly. It's just one of the several options available for dessert, so even though it's hard to do. Make sure you leave room for dessert.

On this day, I was lucky enough to also get a sampling of the delicious brunch buffet offered by Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant. No, this is not available every day, but keep an eye out for those special events like Mother's Day when you can get a taste of that delicious cinnamon/raisin french toast.

So, plan your visit soon! This Summer's 75th Anniversary celebrations are in full swing. You can read more about all of that fun here

Celebrate Ghost Town 75th Anniversary by Coming to Life! #GhostTown75

Have you heard what's going on at Knott's Berry Farm? Ghost Town is coming ALIVE! Not in a scary way, but in a super fun way. I have always enjoyed wandering through Ghost Town, looking at all of the buildings and feeling like you are taking a step back in time. Well, now the doors to the buildings that we've admired for so many years are not only open, but you can go in and experience the fun.

Now through September 5, Knott's Berry Farm’s Ghost Town is celebrating its 75th anniversary with the new interactive entertainment experience, Ghost Town Alive!, Guests can play a role in the stories and adventures unfolding daily in the old west town of Calico.

On June 11th, the new and improved GhostRider opened with new coaster trains zooming over 4,500 feet of new track. GhostRider first opened in 1998 and has been giving white-knuckle rides to riders of all ages since then. It looms over Ghost Town as the tallest, fastest and longest wooden roller coaster on the West Coast. GhostRider has been under renovations for the past 9 months and riders are definitely loving the smoother ride.

Our first stop before entering Ghost Town was to Pan for Gold at it's new/old location. The classic Pan for Gold area that families have loved for many years has moved back to it's original location- right next to the GhostRider entrance. To Pan for Gold you will need to put $10 on a Knott's Game Card that you can use at the various game stops though out the park as well as the arcade.  Once you've worked up a sweat while panning for Gold, you get to take some gold flakes home as a souvenir.

TIP: Don't forget to bring your flakes back with you on your next visit, you can add more each time you come back.

This (handsome) young man who goes by the name Looking Glass Thurmond, was my first encounter with the characters that come alive in Ghost Town. As soon as we entered into Ghost Town territory he stopped us and asked if he could take a photo of us for the Calico Gazette. After chatting for a few minutes, he asked if we would mind dropping a letter to Miss Sierra Mist, the school teacher over at the old school house. We said yes of course. This is where the fun interactive part began for us.

We continued to stroll through Ghost Town and everyone welcomed us in to their shops and houses. As I passed the Barber Shop, the Barber invited us in to look around and told us he would gladly add a mustache of our choosing. We passed on that, but the kids would love it! You can pick from several types of mustache styles, check out my snapchat video below to see what you can look forward to.

Doesn't everyone love this game? Get some bullseye practice in when you can, I always say. Haha!

The Calico Saloon is such a classic part of Ghost Town. I especially love that on a hot day at Knott's the Calico Saloon offers a brief relief from the heat. Oh and don't forget to grab some Boysenberry Beer on tap.

If you recall, I mentioned earlier that we were asked to delver a letter to the School Teacher Miss Sierra Mist, so our next stop was the school house. There is so much history in that tiny red schoolhouse and the teacher, Miss Sierra Mist was very excited to receive her letter and read it out loud to everyone. She also read one of her favorite poems for everyone. It's so cool to feel like a part of the town and everyone is so nice too!

As you wander, you get sucked in more and more. At one point I was handed a note and asked to deliver it to the inmate. But before I could deliver the note, it was intercepted by the Sheriff. He told me to watch out for the bad guys around town and to not get mixed up with them. Well, sounds like good advice to me.

At the Sherrif's Office, guests can join in on an ongoing card game, help the Sheriff by drawing wanted posters for criminals on file, and participate in catching outlaws as a part of the Sheriff’s posse.

There are so many more things for you to see and do while touring Ghost Town Alive! so make sure you take some time to really immerse yourself into the spirit of Ghost Town. The games and stories are fun but keep an eye on the show schedule too and try to stop and enjoy them. My favorite is the Ice Show- Blockbuster Beagle (also another way to get out of heat for a bit).

Check out my Snap Story from my visit at Knott's that day and stay tuned for another post coming soon talking all about the beautiful new renovations at Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant.  Same delicious food, but with an updated modern country style.

Will you be visiting Knott's soon? Now's the time, don't miss all the fun!

Knott's Berry Market Boysenberry Empanadas

Our love for Knott's Berry Farm has grown so much over the past year, we have made so many memories as a family and I am so glad to be able to share them with all of you, my readers. As much as we love celebrating the holidays and seasons with Snoopy and the Peanuts, my goal is to encourage you all to visit with your families to make your own Knott's Berry Farm memories.

Recently, my love for Knott's has taken me out of the park and into the surrounding shops located in Knott’s California Market place. Last week I spent an hour wandering around Berry Market dreaming up some recipes that would be perfect for the upcoming holidays. Today I am sharing TWO recipes with you, Boysenberry & Cream Cheese Empanadas and Boysenberry BBQ Meatloaf.

Although technically I could bake empanadas year round, I usually save them for the Winter. There is something about having your very own pie with a warm cup of coffee or showing up to a party with a tray of empanadas that is just perfect for the holidays. While perusing the aisles at Berry Market I came across my favorite Knott's Berry Farm Biscuit Mix and Berry Market Boysenberry preserves and one thought came to mind: empanadas.

This recipe yields one dozen empanadas.

To make these delicious (and easy) empanadas, you will need:

  •  Knott's Berry Farm Biscuit Mix (and water)
  • Berry Market Boysenberry Preserves (any Berry Market preserves would be delicious)
  • 1 pack of Cream Cheese
  • 1 egg yolk
  • A pinch of sugar for each empanada

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and prepare the pan with parchment paper.
  2. Make the dough: Follow the instructions on the Knott's Biscuit Mix package. The recipe calls for 2 cups of mix to 2/3 cups of water.  Follow instructions for the roll out dough and knead the dough on a floured surface.
  3. Separate the dough into 12 - 1 1/2 inch balls.
  4. Roll each ball of dough to a 1/4 inch thick circle with a 3 1/2 inch diameter.
  5. Spread 1 tbsp of cream cheese on half of the dough, making sure to stay about 1/2 inch from the ends.
  6. Top the cream cheese with 1 tbsp of Berry Market Boysenberry Preserves.
  7. Fold half of the dough over the other half to form a semi circle.
  8. Use a fork and press along the edges of the empanada to close.
  9. Pop the egg yolk and use a brush (or your fingers) to spread some yolk over the top of the empanada. Sprinkle sugar over the top of the empanada.
  10. Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

Not only did I fall in love with Knott's Berry Farm's Berry Market for my own personal recipe ideas, I was super excited to find so many gift ideas. My favorite types of gifts to give (and receive) are gift baskets filled with items that will last you longer than one day. Berry Market has so many different items that can be put together to make the best gift basket.

I fell in love with all of the dry mixes. They had every flavor you could think of in these super cute packages. See the carrot cake muffin mix above? Adorable. Berry Market is definitely known for their many flavors of preserves, but you will also find really pretty and unique kitchen items as well as your choice of fresh fudge and coffee made right in store.

If you will be visiting Knott's during #MerryFarm make sure to stop by the Berry Market and make some gifts off of your list. If you will be missing Knott's Merry Farm this year, don't worry, Knott's Berry Market has an online store. You can purchase your favorite Peanuts stuffed plush characters, Jams, Syrups and Seasoning Mixes in time to make your holiday gift baskets.

Family Friendly Halloween Fun! #KnottsSpookyFarm

Disclosure: My family and I were invited by GigaSavvy to a media day at Knott's Berry Farm just so I can share with you all the awesomeness they have going on. All opinions are 100% mine.

It's been a full year since we visited Knott's Berry Farm for the first time. I absolutely love that our first visit was during Halloween time. We spent all day in Camp Spooky and this year we could not wait to get back and see what Knott's had in store for our family. This year, Halloween is not only in Camp Snoopy, it's taken over the entire park and has become, Knott's Spooky Farm every weekend in October.

See, while the kiddos jumped on the carousel I was able to check out the fun map and plan out our route for the day. We started our fun morning at the Spooky Hallow Maze.

A video posted by Cynthia Duarte (@kindasillymommy) on Oct 3, 2015 at 3:12pm PDT

This is a Snapchat that I made and posted to my Instagram of this crazy dizzy tunnel inside the Spooky Hallow Maze.

This pumpkin decorating station was setup at the end of Spooky Hallow. For just $5 we decorated our mini pumpkins and then brought them home to add to our decorations. Do your kids love decorating pumpkins as much as mine?

Oh and keep an eye out for some of these guys! Snoopy and the Peanut gang are dressed up in costume while walking around the park. You can also catch their show and costume parade in Camp Snoopy, just check for showtimes.

Just a helpful hint for your next visit, now all games at Knott's use this game card. Don't worry, there are card kiosks all over and you can just put money on the card and let the kids play their favorite games. I actually liked being able to just give each kid a card with some money and when they ran out, they were done. No questions asked.

These are the type of not-so-creepy characters you can find around Ghost Town while trick or treating. Don't worry, they are very friendly and not at all scary, so the kids won't be traumatized forever.

How cool is the stage setup at Fiesta Plaza? I love that Knott's embraces the Hispanic culture and showcases Dia De Los Muertos throughout the area.

This was also really fun! The Monster Masquerade Ball was actually two fun activities for the kids. The kids are encouraged to get up and sing karaoke and color and create a fun Halloween mask.

Knott's does a really great job of adding family friendly Halloween activities to the already fun Knott's Berry Farm. Right now is the best time to buy your Knott's season pass. From now until November 2nd, you can buy a year's worth of fun at Knott's for only 9 payments of $9! Read more and get your passes here.

Who can forget how Knott's welcomes Spring with giant flowers and the Easter beagle? Our family had the best time trying the delicious Fried Alligator and Boysenberry goodness at the world famous Knott's Boysenberry Festival. A definite must!

This Summer at Knott's was especially exciting with the Grand Opening of the new Voyage to the Iron Reef, our favorite new ride. Of course, Knott's has Soak City for you to cool down, but they also have exciting new shows and events for the whole family to experience together during Summer break. Now it's time for my favorite time of year at Knott's, Halloween! I love taking my girls to Camp Spooky and this year the whole park is getting a Spooky Farm makeover. If you are a fan of the creepy mazes, then Knott's Scary Farm has the best and runs Sept. 24 - Oct. 31.

Summer Fun at Knott's Berry Farm #NewAtKnotts

Disclosure: My family and I were invited by GigaSavvy to a media day at Knott's Berry Farm just so I can share with you all the awesomeness they have going on. All opinions are 100% mine.

Lately, I have been sharing about all the fun that is going on at Knott's Berry Farm and I really hope you get out there soon, real soon, like this Summer. Knott's has added some really exciting shows, music, and a new ride all on top of everything that is already awesome at Knott's. A couple weeks ago I mentioned some of the fun coming up this Summer and now I get to share some more of it with you.

The Ice shows at the Charles M. Shultz theater are amazing! This one is no exception! It is such a fun show to check out. Especially during the Summer when it's hot outside, get inside and cool down for a bit and watch the show. I mean how fun is it to watch Snoopy and friends skating around through Hollywood I mean Snoopywood.

The new Vertical Impact show is pretty intense and super high energy. The acrobats and their skills are amazing and you totally have to stop and watch. The whole show is set to fun fast music and is something for the whole family. Now, my girls are kinda obsessed with getting a trampoline.

I can talk about Knott's newest ride Voyage to the Iron Reef all day. I have been telling everyone about it since we got a sneak peek last month. My family love the whole experience, it's fun and interactive and we have so much fun shooting as we go. The friendly family competition is a lot of added fun as we all rack up our points to see who has the highest score. What was your highest score? Keep the family competition going and check out the new laser tag and arcade right below Iron Reef. Seriously, Knott's has you covered! So much family fun!

I've told you about all the new Summer fun at Knott's but I just had to share with you one of my favorite parts of visiting Knott's. The food of course. You would think I had enough Boysenberry during the Boysenberry Festival earlier this year, but no way. Everyone knows Knott's has the best fried chicken, as you can see my little on completely agrees, but how about that Boysenberry Pie? Next time you are at Knott's, promise me after all the fun, you will stop for some of their famous fried chicken or a slice of their delicious Boysenberry Pie.

So tell me, have you been to Knott's yet this Summer? A lot of these shows are only available through mid-August.

Come See What's #NewAtKnotts This Summer!

You know this family has a lot of love for Knott's Berry Farm, it's definitely our favorite place to go  as a family. I love sharing all of their fun events throughout the year with you, with the hopes that you too will visit and make those memories with your families. A few weeks ago I shared with you all of the fun details about their newest ride Voyage to the Iron Reef. My daughters are still talking about it and can't wait to go back again.

This Summer not only do you need to try out the new interactive 4D Voyage to the Iron Reef, but check out some of their exclusive Summer fun events coming up. Knott's has is it all covered, if you feel like dancing Salsa, or Bluegrass or watching Native American Storytellers, there is so much fun going on at Knott's in between all of the rides. Check out some details below:

Now Open: Knott's 4D Interactive Ride Voyage to the Iron Reef

Disclosure: My family and I were invited by GigaSavvy to a media day at Knott's Berry Farm just so I can share with you all the awesomeness they have going on. All opinions are 100% mine.

The highly anticipated Voyage to the Iron Reef is now open at Knott's Berry Farm and my family and I were lucky enough to be invited to the media preview a couple days ago to get a sneak peek into the newest interactive 4-D ride.

My girls have seen the commercials over the past few weeks and although my littlest was afraid of the "big giant octopus," my oldest could not wait to try it out.

Voyage to the Iron Reef takes guests undersea on a thrilling journey into the depths of the Boardwalk to fight the Kraken Queen and save the park from a watery doom. The new interactive 4-D ride features a rotating seat and ten interactive scenes filled with iron clad sea creatures that we get to shoot at with our freeze blasters. Each rider has their own color blaster so you can see who's shooting where and at the end of the ride you get to see who had the highest score.

The scenes are amazing and I suggest you ride and ride again to really see everything there is to see. There are hidden medallions throughout the ride to score the highest points, iconic treasures from Knott's past hidden in the Iron Reef and even a hidden Snoopy in the ride dock mural.

Of course, we had to snag a photo with Captain Snoopy!

Knott's also opened a refreshed 8,186 sq. ft. arcade filled with brand new games located right below the Voyage to the Iron Reef as well as a new retail shop called Nautilus. Also, I am very excited that Knott's will reopen the updated Laser Tag compound later this summer.

The Kraken Queen and her iron clad aquatic army have many adventures in store for guests this summer. A

2015 Knott’s Season Pass

is the best way to journey into the Iron Reef again and again, and Passes are available for as low as $86.00 or four payments of just $21.50 (plus applicable taxes and fees) at

Making Memories at the Knott's Berry Farm Boysenberry Festival

Disclosure: My family and I were invited by GigaSavvy to a media day at Knott's Berry Farm just so I can share with you all the awesomeness they have going on. All opinions are 100% mine.
The highly anticipated Knott's Berry Farm's Boysenberry Festival has officially kicked off and my family and I were fortunate enough to be there for opening day ceremonies. We love spending time together and making memories, isn't that what life is all about anyway? I will always treasure my time spent at Knott's as a kid and I am just so glad to be able to do the same with my girls. The Boysenberry Festival is a special time at Knott's Berry Farm and only runs through April 12th, if not for the food alone, you need to visit soon! Keep reading for some of the fun you and your family can look forward to.
During opening ceremonies, we were lucky enough to watch as the world renowned competitive eater Joey Chestnut gobbled down 14 pounds of Boysenberry Pie to become the first ever Knott's Boysenberry Festival World Pie-Eating Champion. I have to admit I was equally impressed and grossed out while watching the eaters messily eat the Boysenberry Pie.
That Boysenberry Pie trophy was definitely earned and well deserved. All of the participating eaters were such a mess while congratulating each other on a job well done.
Ghost Town is a classic part of Knott's Berry Farm and is the main stage for most of the Boysenberry Festival festivities.
Every guest that visits Knott's has posed behind these bars while entering Ghost Town. This was actually our first time and I think these pictures need to be framed. Can you tell who the feisty one is? Haha.
Last week while attending the media preview I told you about some of the delicious foods that you and your family can find during the Boysenberry Festival. The one thing on the list that I didn't get a chance to try during the preview was the Fried Alligator with Boysenberry Aioli, of course it was the first thing my family and I had to try. Now that I've tried it, let me just tell you, it is DELICIOUS! Everyone says it tastes just like chicken, and I agree, but to me, the taste and texture is kind of a cross between chicken and fried calimari. I was so proud of my little for trying it, she keeps telling everyone, "Crocodile tastes like chicken!"
Another family favorite is the churro, I can pretty much get my husband to go with me anywhere as I long as I promise that there is a churro in his future. This time we tried the Boysenberry stuffed churro and I must admit, the Churro factory in Ghost Town has the hands-down best churros in town.
If you get out to Knott's Berry Farm's Boysenberry Festival, make sure to purchase the tasting card for the best deal. With the tasting card, you can try 6 specialty foods for $25 and all portions are definitely shareable for the family. I could talk about the food from the Boysenberry festival all day, my favorite savory options are: the Spicy Boysenberry BBQ Wings, Fried Alligator, Fish and Chips sandwich and the Fried Cheese curds and my favorite dessert items are: the Fun Bun, Boysenberry stuffed Churro and the Boysenberry Dessert Flautas.

I think I have the food at the Boysenberry Festival to blame for my daughter turning into a mini food vlogger. She has been watching youtube lately and wanted to introduce herself on my instagram while trying the Boysenberry BBQ wings for the first time.
Knott's Berry Farm is family friendly and such a great value for all the fun memories you can make with your family. From the rides for both little and big kids, the shows for the whole family, and the delicious home style cooking, we love making our memories here. We can't wait to check out the new Voyage to the Iron Reef opening in May and with the warm So Cal Summer coming up, my girls are looking forward to checking out Knott's Soak City for the first time.
