Last year, as I was going through major life changes, I started losing weight. I wasn’t trying. I wasn’t depressed and not eating, in fact, usually I’m an emotional eater and turn to food for comfort. I started losing, just because I was feeling better about myself. So then, the Summer came around and the person I was spending most of my time with started to talk about the Keto diet. I had done Atkins when I was younger, I knew I could go along with Keto, and it was so much easier to do with a partner.Read More

There’s something about Fall and the start of Football season that makes me crave ribs. During the Summer I might be in the mood to make them myself, but once the weather starts cooling down and the sun sets a little earlier, I kinda want someone else to make them for me. It just so happens to be perfect timing because starting October 1st through October 28, you can get all you can eat ribs for $19.99 at Dickey's Barbecue Pit.Read More

I can’t believe this is my 4th year covering the LA County Fair food preview. I have to admit it’s one of my favorite events. I love getting together with friends while we stuff our faces with the most delicious and interesting fried foods imaginable. Over the years I have tried the Krispy Kreme burger, Ramen burger, deep fried pizza, deep fried bacon wrapped pickles, bacon wrapped chicken and pretty much everything in between. My favorite to this day, is the BBQ Brisket Sundae.Read More

Disclaimer: I was invited to a tasting event at Maro Wood Grill, all opinions and photos are my own.
One of the most beautiful places in Southern California is Laguna Beach. My husband and I used to hang out in Laguna when we were first dating, this beach city has a lot of special memories for me. Recently, I was invited to a tasting event at Maro Wood Grill in Laguna Beach and it was hands down, the best food I've ever eaten.
Maro Wood Grill is inspired by Argentina's appreciation of the pure simplicity of the lost art of cooking over open fire. Sourcing local produce, grass fed beef and making everything from scratch, you can taste the inspiration and culture in every bite.
Maro Wood Grilled opened its doors in March 2010, in an intimate friendly space, just a few steps from the ocean. (I took this photo after taking a 5 minute walk from the restaurant.) The interior accommodates 8 bar height guests around the exhibition kitchen and the covered outdoor heated patio sits 28 guests. I really enjoyed the dimly lit patio, it is the perfect date night spot. Okay, so let's start talking about the food.
Mushroom Ceviche & Grilled Sourdough
A delicious way to start your meal at Maro. The Mushroom Ceviche has surprising hints of lime and jalapeno and is such a hearty bite for an appetizer.
Okay, I'm going to try and explain the flavors on these appetizers to the best of my ability. I know I won't do it justice, because even looking back at these photos I can still taste the amazing aroma from the wood fire grill. The mushroom and spinach empanadas were delicious, but the smoke and sea salt flavor on the edamame and green beans took these natural flavors to the next level. It's the kind of stuff you dream about.
The Wood Grilled "Oysters Rockerfeller" with a Burnt Lemon Wedge was my first time having oysters. The oysters with smokey lemon zest and the grilled sourdough went together so good for a crunchy bite. One of my favorites of the entire evening was the Ricotta Noquis and Grilled Tomatoes. Noquis is a traditional Argentinean meal, that was commonly served at the end of the month, when just before payday, potatoes were the only food left in the house. Maro maintains this tradition and in fact on the 29th of every month, $1 is placed under each plate of Noquis.
The protein, left to right: Flat Iron and Chimichurri, Mesquite Lamb and Baba Ghanouj and Short Rib with Roasted Veggies.
Before I start talking about the amazing, mouth watering protein that is served at Maro Wood Grill, I have to tell you that everything is organic and grass-fed. I had no idea how much better organic grass-fed protein would taste. I mean, of course, Maro is responsible for the amazing wood grill flavor, but all of the protein was just so tender and mouth watering, and cooked to perfection. Seriously, the best piece of meat I've ever eaten.
When I tell you that this dessert at Maro Wood Grill is not only delicious but award winning, I'm not exaggerating. The Banana Bread Pudding is the Golden Foodie Award Winner for “Most Delicious Dessert” in Orange County. Executive Chef (pictured above) Debra Sims proudly shares their Golden Foodie Award with restaurant goers, because, well the customers are the ones who voted right?
When thinking of the perfect night out or date night spot, Maro Wood Grill is perfect. Romantic, quiet atmosphere, delicious food and great location. Oh, and the house sangria was really good too, almost too good, if you know what I mean.

Disclosure: My family and I were invited to a media event to preview Johnny Rockets new shake flavors. As always, all opinions are my own!
If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter (which you totally should be if you're not), you may have noticed that over the weekend I was celebrating National #ShakeMonth at one of our favorite family restaurants, Johnny Rockets. Johnny Rockets has two exciting new shakes to help you celebrate, the Reese’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Shake and the Goosebumps Shake.
My family and I had a great time sampling Johnny Rocket fries, onion rings and their delicious variety of Chicken Breast Sandwich, Boca Burger and Cheeseburger.
This one, the Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich was my favorite of the day. The grilled farm-raised chicken breast, crisp leaf lettuce, fresh tomato, and mayonnaise on a whole wheat bun was so refreshing and light.
We couldn't help but take a ton of #ShakeMonth selfies with our favorite shakes.
All Johnny Rockets delicious shakes are hand-spun and made with premium ice cream and I was lucky enough to get a first hand view of how they were made.
The Reese’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Shake is made with real Reese’s ® Peanut Butter and chocolate, and topped with a Reese’s ® Peanut Butter Cup and Reese’s ® Pieces ® Mini Candies, this shake’s a true taste sensation. Currently available at all restaurants except special venues, which includes airport, casino, stadium, theme park, and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line locations.
Oh and this is such a great way to get ready for the new Goosebumps movie. I'll tell you a little secret, I screened the movie a couple of months back and if you are a fan of the Goosebumps books or Jack Black, you will LOVE the movie. I kinda love that Johnny Rocket's came up with a Goosebumps Shake (coming to participating restaurants September 21st!)* The new Goosebumps shake is made with premium vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, milk, and mixed with Oreo pieces and topped with whipped cream, an Oreo garnish and colorful gummy worms.
You want one right? Head out to your local Johnny Rockets and celebrate #ShakeMonth with one of these delicious new shakes. Which one will you try first the Goosebumps Shake or the Reese’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Shake?
*Available September 21st at all restaurants except special venues, which includes airport, casino, stadium, theme park, and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line locations.

You know what they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It's true, breakfast is important but for me I have the hardest time coming up with different ideas for breakfast. It probably has to do with the fact that I don't function well before coffee, but I must admit, I usually hand them some quick toaster item. I am so glad to have found the new Quaker® Real Medleys® Yogurt Cups at Walmart, because now I can hand them something delicious and filling just as easily.
I count this as a total Mom Win when you can meet all food group criteria in one meal. Quaker Real Medleys is a delicious blend of everything you need for breakfast. Dairy is covered with the yogurt and milk, Multigrains covered with the granola, real Fruit and some crunchy nuts. Now all we need is some extra protein. What better way to please the picky eaters than with an omelette bar? This way, they can pick all of their favorite ingredients to add to it and if you're lucky, you can add in some veggies here and there.
An omelette bar is much easier than you may think, and a great way to give everyone exactly what they want for breakfast. Here is what I used for my omelette bar:
2 eggs beaten
chopped bacon (cooked, drained and set aside)
sliced mushrooms (sauteed and set aside)
salt and pepper to taste
butter and olive oil for the pan
a dollop of sour cream
My tips on how to make the perfect omelette:
1. Make sure to use a non-stick pan and heat a tbsp of butter and olive oil over medium high heat.
2. Scramble 2 eggs in a bowl and set aside. Add salt and pepper.
3. Add onions and tomatoes first, until they soften a bit.
4. Add spinach, cooked bacon and mushrooms to the pan and let heat through for a minute or until the spinach starts to cook.
5. Pour the egg mixture right over the middle of the sauteed ingredients and let the egg spread out along the bottom of the pan. Tilt the pan gently so the egg can fill the empty spots in the pan.
6. Add cheese to the top of the ingredients.
7. Let the egg cook through. Once you can lift the side of the egg with the spatula, you know the egg is cooked. Lift one side of the egg and fold it over the center and repeat with the other side.
8. Remove from pan and place on your plate, add a dollop of sour cream to the top.
There is nothing like this before, you have everything covered in this breakfast! As easy as the omelette is, Quaker Real Medleys Yogurt Cups helps you take care of everything else.
My girls see yogurt as a treat because it tastes so good, and these are so quick and easy, just add cold milk, stir, and eat! Convenient, satisfying and delicious, this new product is the first shelf-stable convergence of granola, fruit and yogurt – all in a single serve cup. Which of course means, no extra dirty dishes.
Crunchy. Cool. Yum. Quaker Real Medleys comes in 3 delicious flavors:

I was lucky enough to be at Walmart when they had a demo for the new Quaker Real Medleys Yogurt Cups, so I got to taste test all of them before bringing them home. Check this list to see if a Walmart near you has a demo scheduled for 8/13-8/16. Honestly, I loved all of the flavors. Yes, I asked to taste all of them. It's okay, the demo lady was very nice to me.

I'd love to hear your favorite!
I love my little town of El Sereno. I have been meaning to highlight some of the local places to eat around here and today I am sharing with you the delicious Churro Ice Cream Sandwich from Mama Churros y Mas. Located on the very busy Huntington Dr., it is easy to pass right by while on your way, but a big sign saying Churros and Chicken caught my eye and called me in.
Drooling yet? The Churros are fresh, crispy yet soft and have the perfect cinnamon-sugar ratio. And to make it even better, they sandwich two churros with creamy french vanilla ice cream in the middle.
The churro ice cream sandwich is gaining popularity really fast and rightfully so, because YUM! But this was the first place that I had ever heard of this delicious creation and I've been meaning to stop by to try it out for a while now and today I finally did. If you are a churro lover and have stopped by Mr. Churro at Olvera Street, then you will find these churros to be familiar, since they have the same owner.
Mama Churros y Mas also has other items on the menu, but besides the Churro Ice Cream Sandwich, they have a delicious crispy fried chicken plate (under $5) that comes with a side of churros and syrup to dip.
I will have to go back and try some other desserts that Mama Churros has to offer, because they are really on to something delicious here. The restaurant has a cafe feel and offers some outdoor seating as well as fun art on the walls inside and a piano in the corner waiting for a musical guest.
I recommend stopping in for a snack or dinner and dessert if you get the chance, pull over and order up one of these delicious churro ice cream sandwiches and dig in! You will not regret it. ENJOY!
Earlier this week I attended the media preview for the upcoming Boysenberry Festival at Knott's Berry Farm and got all the yummy details to share with you! As you can see, the Boysenberry Festival begins this weekend on March 28th and runs through April 12th.
You ready? Okay, I'm warning you now, the pictures are pretty drool worthy.
I am going to start off with my favorites. This right here is the
Fish and Chips Sandwich with Boysenberry Tartar Sauce
. The fish was perfect, crispy and moist, the kettle cooked chips added a really nice texture and the Boysenberry Tartar sauce added a perfect amount of tart and sweet to the sandwich.
These Fried Cheese Curds with fries and Boysenberry Ketchup are AMAZING! Honestly, I had never had fried cheese curds before and didn't know what to expect, but OMG! They were kinda like the most moist cheese sticks, but better.
So one of the best things that Knott's Berry Farm has ever done was create their Boysenberry BBQ sauce (which you can now purchase by the bottle). The Chicken Wings and Ribs are so good and messy all drenched in the sauce. Yum! Literally finger-licking-face-wiping good!
There are also a ton of Boysenberry delights to keep an eye out for while at Knott's Berry Farm. The Boysenberry candies are so good, you have to try the big Boysenberry Chocolate bar, taffy, licorice, and gummy bears. Yes, I said Boysenberry gummy bears! Oh and don't forget to try the Boysenberry Honey, BBQ sauce and Jams they are such a treat. Of course, you can't forget the classic Boysenberry punch and Icee and the drink I am dying to try is the Boysenberry Latte, I have to try it next time I'm at Knott's.
Okay, let me get started on the desserts. Right here, you are looking at the Boysenberry Flautas. I think it is a fried crepe stuffed with Boysenberry, dusted with powdered sugar. Sounds good right? Okay, now get ready for the new best thing ever.
Meet The Fun Bun! The Fun Bun is probably one of the best park foods ever, a cinnamon roll, dipped and fried in funnel cake batter and topped with Boysenberry Cream Cheese. Yes, it is just a delicious as it sounds and when you cut into it for the first time, the amazing aroma that greets you is like nothing else. It is definitely something to share with the family, I mean unless you can handle massive desserts all by yourself, then go for it. The Fun Bun is so amazing, it even has it's own Twitter handle, go follow it
So, hurry up and get out there, because the Knott's Boysenberry Festival is short lived but all of the delicious Boysenberry foods are so so worth it.
You know I love making lunches for my little ladies. But I must admit, I am having a hard time trying to keep things interesting. I am always on the hunt for something I can feel good about adding to my daughters lunch. Behold, I have found a good one. Snikiddy Snacks are our newest favorite yummy (and healthy) snack. My girls devoured their Cheese Puffs right away (not pictured for that very same reason) and were really excited for the other flavors too.
