Book Review- Breathe: 31 Moments with God {For Moms}

When I became a mother, my life changed. If you are a mother, you know exactly what I am talking about. Everything changes, you no longer live for yourself, you live for someone else. You are completely preoccupied with this living person that was just pulled out of you. The story of when I became a mother, is not like most. My first born, passed away hours after he was born. My faith was challenged from that point and I am proud to say that my faith only grew stronger. Soon after, as my husband and I tried for another baby, I prayed every night to become pregnant. I prayed and I promised our Lord that I will raise my children to know and love Him, if he just gave me the chance. He did, and I am trying to uphold my end of that "deal."

Lately, I've noticed, that although I have very strong faith, and I pray with my daughters every night and after supper, I realized that I am not taking time for myself to build my relationship with God. I'm sure that is a challenge for many mothers with crazy lives, when do you make time to hear what He is saying?

I was blessed with a great opportunity when a fellow blogger, Jaimie Bowman wrote a wonderful book and allowed me to read it prior to its release. Breathe: 31 Moments with God (For Moms) is a beautifully written resource for mothers who find themselves too busy to take the time that they need to reconnect with the Lord.

Each day has short scripture passages to read and some very relate-able personal stories that Jaimie shares of herself and her life with her children. Each reading ends with a prayer and some questions to help you reflect on what you just read. Let me share with you one particular days reading that didn't just speak to me, but yelled, waved, and stomped it's feet at me.

Day 28- James 1:19-26
Jaimie talks about a time that she was at the grocery store and watched as a mother yelled and pulled at her children, loudly expressing her anger and impatience. This got my attention for two reasons: 1. I've seen this mom in the market before and I judge her and feel bad for her kids. 2. I have been this mother. I am sure that in public I watch my tone a bit more, but when I am at home I have had moments that I am not very proud of when my patience escapes me. (This is usually during a certain time of the month.)
Jaimie points out that in Verse 19 we are told, "be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry." And goes on to remind us, "We don’t have to yell, accuse, blame, or hurt others when we are angry. God can change our hearts so we can respond in love."
  Like each day in Breathe she ends with a prayer. This prayer has us confessing our struggles to our Lord and asks Him to remind us how to handle our stress and anger so that we can live the righteous life He wants us to lead. Does this sound like something that you could benefit from? Be honest, as a mother, it is very difficult to keep your cool all the time.

Each and every day, page, passage and prayer in this book has so much meaning and love behind it that it really can impact your relationship with God and life in a wonderful way. I hope that you find yourself with this book in your hands, as a mother who needed a reminder, this book made a difference in my every day. It could make a difference in yours. And wouldn't this make such a thoughtful gift?
