This is a compensated campaign in collaboration with Northgate Gonzalez Market.
Growing up, sitting as a family every night for dinner was not just a tradition, it was just what we did, it was normal. I didn’t know that other families didn’t do that and as I grew older, I realized it was something that I would be grateful for. As a single, working mother I do my very best to make sure that we all sit down as a family to eat as often as possible. But I also recognize that sometimes our schedules get the best of us, and that’s okay too. Sometimes, I want to come home and make a simple dinner, sit down and talk to my girls, clean up and go to bed. Sometimes, we’re on the go with cheer practice and we eat something quick while we run out the door. Sometimes, I feel like trying a new recipe and cooking for 3 hours just so we can eat in 10 minutes.
Luckily for us, we have Northgate Market to help us out. Not only do they recognize the importance of family and meal time, they celebrate that mealtime is the best time of the day. For those days that I don’t want to cook, I can head to my local Northgate and pick up a meal to-go. I also try to pick up meals that are already preparado to help me save time. Like the Taquiza pack I picked up. Everything was ready to go, all I had to do was throw it on a comal on the grill and make our tacos.
Of course, my girls have different tastes and I like to mix it up a bit. So for this meal, we cooked our carne asada and made three types of tacos. Lettuce tacos, Cheese shell taco, and tacos with in-store made tortillas de harina.
To make our delicious Taco trio, here’s what you’ll need:
· Carne asada from Northgate González Market
· Romaine Lettuce leaves
· Tortillas de Harina from Northgate González Market
· Shredded cheese (I used Mild Cheddar for my cheese taco shell)
Our toppings of choice:
· Pico de gallo from Northgate González Market
· Salsa rojo also from Northgate González Market
· Shredded cheese
· Sliced avocados
· Sour cream or crema
Did you know that 63% of Americans decide what to eat less than an hour before eating. (Source: Hartman Group, 2013) My mom is like this, she has never liked or enjoyed cooking. I try to not be that way. I try to plan ahead and according to my budget and Northgate González Market really helps me to find everything I need to feed my family and stay close to my heritage. Shopping with my daughters at Northgate González Market is always a fun outing for us because they know they can talk me into buying some fresh pan dulce, agua de pina and chicharron. They know me too well.
With September being #NationalFamilyMealsMonth I am proud to say that some of our favorite moments are shared while we sit down as a family. Food always makes everything better and once we’re all done eating and chatting about our day, we can end our day feeling good about the time we spent together.
