There is something extra awesome about cultural celebrations. I love living in a city, in a world where we can come together and learn about other cultures and take part in the traditions and celebrations together, as one.
Universal Studios Hollywood has transformed their central plaza to help everyone celebrate this Lunar New Year, the Year of the Rooster.
If you haven't been to Universal Studios in a while, you are in for a treat. The new Wizarding World of Harry Potter is now open (and probably one of my most favorite places in the whole entire world). The Minion Ride and Super Silly Fun Land along with The Simpsons Ride are both tons of fun for the whole family, and you can't forget The Fast and The Furious in 3D. That's just to name a few, there is just so much going on, believe me your day is well spent at Universal Studios Hollywood.
One of the coolest things that Universal Studios has is walking, talking, interactive Transformers. Right outside of the Transformers Ride you can find the times to see, take pictures and interact with Optimus Prime, Bumble Bee and Megatron. During Lunar New Year, you can find a Mandarin speaking Megatron in the central plaza. We said, "Ni Hao!" but he didn't seem to appreciate it, Megatron is a pretty angry Decepticon- which is so cool!
The central plaza area is decorated beautifully for Lunar New Year. You can walk around and find the year you were born and which Chinese Zodiac animal is yours along with characteristics from that year. I am the year of the Rat.
As you look around you will see these beautiful trees adorned with red papers. You can find a small writing station where you can write down your wishes and dreams for the new year on a piece of red paper and hang them on the trees around the plaza. How cool is that? You're surrounded by everyone's hopes and dreams for the new year.
Another favorite part of visiting Universal Studios is all of the character photo opps. My girls LOVE taking photos with everyone they see. During the Lunar New Year you can find Curious George and Woody Woodpecker dressed in their Lunar New Year clothing and Kung Fu Panda's Po and Tigress too. What I love most about the character greets is that they don't just pose for a photo. They interact, they take time to give hugs and smiles, and have fun with everyone. Check out the meeting between my girls and Agnes from Despicable Me.
The Lunar New Year celebrations are going on now through February 5th at Universal Studios Hollywood.
For California residents, Universal Studios Hollywood’s recently introduced California Neighbor Pass is chock full of benefits, enabling guests to choose any day for their first visit and return to enjoy Universal Studios Hollywood for select days and weekends. Discounts on general admission tickets for friends and family to the theme park also include access to special events, such as Lunar New Year.
