I had the best time celebrating the upcoming digital release of Disney PIXAR COCO at the historic Placita Olvera or Olvera St. We were not only treated to a delicious dinner (and margaritas) at El Paseo Inn, but we were lucky enough to be in the company of Anthony Gonzales, the voice of Miguel accompanied by the Mariachi Divas and folklorico dancers.
Side note: As a native Angeleno, if you have never visited Olvera Street right outside of DTLA, you are missing out. It is full of culture, shopping and good food. This is the place to go to make memories with the family.
It was such a pleasure to hear Anthony Gonzales, the voice of Miguel not only sing Remember Me and Poco Loco live and in person, it was really great to hear parts of his story. He recalled singing on the streets of Placita Olvera as a young child. And when asked how he felt about being a part of the Disney PIXAR family forever, he said he felt grateful.
My favorite part is when Miguel meets artist Frida Kahlo during his journey in the Land of the Dead. I thought they did a fantastic job bringing such an iconic artist to the big screen. Filmmakers used various references — including the artist’s own work — to create the character, designing a variation of the Tehuantepec-style costume Kahlo often wore. Inspired by Kahlo’s pet spider-monkeys that appear in many of her self-portraits, filmmakers created a monkey-alebrije for Kahlo’s spirit guide.
Disney PIXAR COCO is now available for digital download and if you don't have the Movies Anywhere App yet, I suggest you download it ASAP. It combines all of your digital downloads and has them conveniently in one place. And... don't forget Disney PIXAR COCO comes to DVD/Blu Ray on February 27th!
