There is always so much to love about visiting Universal Studios Hollywood. It's one of our FAVORITE places to visit in Southern California. A couple months ago, I was telling you all about how much I love celebrating Grinchmas and seeing the Holiday lights at Hogwarts. Well the new year is upon us and now Universal Studios Hollywood is celebrating the Year of the Dog with Lunar New Year activities.
Now through February 25th, you will find a brand new transformed Universal plaza. It is beautifully decorated with Cherry Blossom trees, paper lanterns and a ton of fun activities. Here is some of the fun you can look forward to.
Mandarin Speaking Megatron
Before you enter the plaza you will be greeted by a Transformer, not just any Transformer, but Megatron, the leader of the Decepticons. I bet you didn't think I knew that. Oh yes, I know my Transfomers. If you thought Megatron was mean already, just wait until you hear him yell at you in a foreign language. It's definitely a fun experience to interact with a Mandarin speaking Megatron.
Learn to Draw Kung-Fu Panda Characters
This is the kind of activity that both me and my daughters really love. It's a mini art lesson mixed in with the fun day at Universal Studios. The artist that teaches the lesson does such a great job of teaching step-by-step instructions that it seems so easy. Also, as a Mom, I love this kind of souvenir, it adds to the memories of the day.
How cute is PO?! I love him and all of the Kung-Fu Panda characters. But, Po is my favorite. You can learn to draw Po, Viper, Crane, Mantis, Monkey and Tigress at different times throughout the day.
Add your wish for the New Year to the Plaza Trees
This is such a fun activity for the whole family. My daughter wished for a pet unicorn. So, I don't know about that one. But, if you get a chance to look through some of the wishes, they will lift your spirit. I hope it's not a jinx to read other people's wishes, but I did and many of them are really beautiful. I saw wishes for healthy unborn babies, for luck with finishing school, for getting into college, for healthy and happiness and for love.
Minions dressed in Traditional Chinese Clothing
The photo ops at Universal Studios are a huge part of the fun! You will find everyone here from Scooby Doo, to Marilyn Monroe, to Shrek and Donkey to Beetleguice and so many more. Whenever we visit Super Silly Fun Land, we have to stop by and see all of the Minions. During the Lunar New Year celebrations, you will find Stewart there dressed in traditional Chinese clothing ready for a picture.
Interactive Kung-Fu training show
I may sound like a party pooper, but I like when we're out and about and we have an opportunity to sit down for a bit. It's even better when it's for a funny show and what makes it the best is when they invite kids from the audience to participate. This Kung Fu show is cute and funny and gives the kids a chance to play along.
Authentic Asian dishes at Mr. Ping’s Noodle Shop.
Ah, the food. So, if you know Kung Fu Panda, then you know that Po's adoptive father is Mr. Ping. Well, lucky for us not only can you see and chat with Mr. Ping, but you can try some of his famous noodles at Mr. Ping's Noodle Shop! We also tried the Bao Buns and they were delicious!
The Story of Lunar New Year
I loved this show, This is the story of Lunar New Year and it gives all the kids another opportunity to be a part of the show. They take volunteers and pass out fun props to help tell the story. So, grab some popcorn and hear the story of how the Lunar New Year all began.
Let's not forget all of the other fun stuff always happening at Universal Studios.
